The Fourth of July this year fell on a week that was HOTTER than normal! We'd been experiencing days and weeks in June of consecutive 110 degree + days and so we were looking for cool activities. Since our neighbor was out of town and had invited us to use her pool while they were away, we packed up the pool towels and toys and spent the better part of the day there. Ivy was near-impossible to extract from the water; she is such a water bug and is happy to spend hours and hours swimming!
This is Millie's face if you TELL her to smile. It's a show of teeth with closed eyes.
These girls made necklaces out of red, white, and blue beads early in the day and had fun wearing them around all day.
That evening we had our cousins come over for a BBQ and slip-n-slide party. They were all bigger and faster this year and just a
little bit more brave.
Dad gave Millie filled water balloons and she had fun trying to throw them onto the people below her on the balcony. There was also a bit of fun among the adults using the water balloon launcher to try and pelt David but it was a challenge to aim it right and we just ended up having fun slinging them straight up and watching them hit the ground hard.
The kids also had fun swimming in the little pool, especially the little kids.
After the water and the BBQ, the kids paraded to patriotic music down the street a little way on their decorated rides and threw candy to their parents sitting on the curb. It was short-lived with the heat but pretty darn cute!
We did just a few fireworks at the Clay's house and then headed into town to try and find a spot to park our buns for the big fireworks.
Town was busy and since they were only shooting the fireworks off from one location (the college stadium), it was extra packed. We knew the PD would be pretty far away from the venue so we tried to find a closer place and ended up on the grass across the street from the Temple. It was a good distance since Millie was scared out of her mind and Ivy's noise sensitivity was still an issue.
Millie cried intermittently and kept saying, "get me!" but toward the end of the show started to believe our constant remarks that the "fireworks were pretty," and "far away" and "not going to get you." She finally admitted she liked the blue ones and the waterfall ones.
Ivy kept her earmuffs on the whole time and Jocelyn wandered with Cruz. The car ride home was a sleepy one and they all were nearly unconscious by the time we pulled into the garage. It was a great Fourth and we were happy to spend it with family!
