Car Chase In San Diego

Wow. Kyle showed me this video on a police video website called Blutube. It's kind of gross. But really dang cool. Check it out if you have a strong stomach.

My Halloween Gift

I woke up this afternoon (I'm still on graveshift, don't think me lazy ;) and was surprised to find a cute Halloween gift bag sitting on my nightstand. Kyle told me it was my "Halloween present". I sat up and opened it and found the movie I've been wanting for a long time, The Nightmare Before Christmas. Woohoo! He had wrapped it himself and decorated the bag with cute Halloween stickers. Now how many husbands are that thoughtful or creative? And how was I lucky enough to get one? :)

Tonya the Turtle

Tonya is an outdoor turtle. She was originally a Christmas present for Tim, but she's lived in my Moms yard (and the surrounding neighbors yards) for upward of 15 years. Earlier this spring, we decided to borrow Tonya for the summer just for fun. We brought her home and ended up putting her in our garden, as it's fenced and keeps her away from the lawnmowers. Over the summer she has helped me keep my garden organic by eating the nasty squash bugs and pill bugs that I'd otherwise have to squish or spray myself (blech!) I have to credit her with most of the work done in the garden this summer! I let her out of the garden every now and then to roam the rest of the yard for a day.

Quirky List

Tagged by Bethany. I already broke Rule 1 though, cause I don't know how to link. Oh well, too bad. :)

RULES:
-Link the person who tagged you
-List 6 of your quirks
-Tag 6 other bloggers by linking them
-List the rules on your blog

#1 I find yard work very therepeutic. My attention span lasts all of about 2 minutes with other tasks but I can pass an entire afternoon away doing yardwork and not even know it. I've had this quirk since I was little; I used to go outside and sweep the walkways and trim the rosebushes for fun.

#2 I don't mix my meats. Chicken cordon bleu? No. Bacon cheeseburger? Thanks anyway. Turkey, ham, and roast beef sub? Blech. I like those meats. Just not together.

#3 I have a gray-sweat-pants-aversion. You know the cheap, drawstring waist, elastic ankle, gray colored sweat pants? I'm terrified of them. I throw up a little bit everytime I see them in a store or someone wearing them. This aversion stems from an 'exposure' incident that occurred at Walmart when I was younger, and from several 911 calls over recent years regarding gray-sweat-pant-wearing lewdness suspects.

#4 I have a bad habit of starting things and not finishing them. I have a lot of big ideas that I get really excited about but then my enthusiasm kind of fizzles out once I get started. I have about 29 unfinished projects sitting around at any given time.

#5 I change my pillowcase every night. I don't know why - it just feels yucky to sleep on it more than one night.

#6 Copying this one because it fits me too. I'm an introvert at the extreme. My energy is drained by being around other people and having to interact with them. I love spending time alone. I'm not a talker, I'm a thinker. I can be with someone and not feel uncomfortable by silence (but I'm uncomfortable when they're uncomfortable by the silence). I realize that ya just can't live that way though so I make efforts to be social and extroverted even though its painful.

Hmmm... I'm not going to tag anyone, but if ya read and want to participate, I'd love to read!

Anticipating Thriller

We're really excited to see Thriller at Tuacahn this year, first because we're going October 30th, which will really put us in the Halloween spirit, and secondly because Matt and Rachelle will be going with us for the first time! We'll also be going with my mom and Kyle's mom and her husband, but they saw it with us last year so they know what to expect. Matt and Rachelle on the other hand won't be expecting the things that "happen" in the audience (don't want to spoil it ;) and I'm excited to see what they think about the skeleton dance, which is our favorite.

Tomorrow us Lamoreaux kids will be getting together to brainstorm ideas for this years spook-alley that we build for the trick-or-treaters. Last year in the front yard we did a graveyard complete with a half buried zombie, a bloody body, and a spiderweb-bound victim. We also surrounded the carport with black plastic and installed a strobe-light hallway with hanging heads, a swamp monster surprise, and black light room with a scary guy (Trenton) screaming from the attic hole in the ceiling. We "zombies" (see pic above) haunted the black light room and a werewolf (Matt) greeted the trick or treaters as they exited, after which most of them left screaming. A few even left shouting "You can keep the dang treats!" This year we hope to have the same effect.

Kyle's Mosaic

Well to be fair (this is OUR blog after all), I thought I'd post Kyle's mosaic. I was mistaken on his favorite drink though. It is root beer, not egg nog. And he claims his first love is me, not work, though I beg to differ. ;)

Called To Serve!

Trenton opened his missionary call Sunday morning and has been called to the Edinburgh, Scotland mission! Congratulations!!! He received a call from the Stake President Saturday night asking him where he had been called to. When he told the Stake President that he hadn't yet received his papers, the Stake President said, "Well you should have. They were sent Monday!" Trenton began searching the house for them early the next morning. Mom pulled them out and gave them to him; they'd arrived in the mail on Kalin's birthday and she (understandably so) didn't want to take away from that. Trent ripped them open promptly.

When he submitted his papers a few weeks ago, we started a contest to see if anyone could guess where he might go. The prize was a barrel of treats/money/gift certificates, and everyone made their guess by putting "their" magnet on an area of the map. Here were the guesses:

Mom guessed Canada
Tia guessed Eastern US
Trent guessed Australia
Tim guessed Vietnam
Dad guessed Germany
Kalin guessed Western US
Rachelle guessed Countries below Mexico
Matt guessed Argentina
Misty guessed Brazil
Kyle guessed Mexico
Grandma T. guessed Montana
Grandpa T. guessed Florida
Chantel guessed Japan
Sgt Bithell (WCPD) guessed Chile
DJ guessed Alaska

No one guessed Scotland, but Mom had guessed Canada and the edge of that country was closest to Scotland so she got the barrel. She, of course, gave it away for everyone to share. He leaves in February.

Kalin's 18th B-day Party!

Well... the baby has grown up!

The last of my five siblings turned 18 on Friday, and what an awesome guy he has become! (*sniff *sniff) Kalin is super-smart, sensitive, funny, FUN to hang out with, good lookin' (anywhere we go girls are always eyeing him), and hard working. The best thing about Kalin though is his always happy-go-lucky attitude. Even when things have been hard in the family, he always has the best attitude and is never grumpy or angry at anyone. I really admire him for that!

We celebrated his birthday by first going out to eat at Texas Roadhouse where he got to ride the "birthday saddle" (don't ever leave the table to use the restroom when it's your birthday!) After that all eight of us headed over to play a game of laser tag and then back to the house for cake and ice cream.

Afternoon Roadtrip

After cleaning house Tuesday morning (:p blach), we decided to do something fun for the rest of the day - an afternoon roadtrip on the motorcycle. We left at about 2pm and headed up SR18 to Enterprise. We then went through east on 56 through Beryl to Cedar City, and up over the mountain to see the fall leaves. The leaves were right at the stage best for viewing; most of them were still on the trees and brightly colored. We passed a sign on the way up the mountain that said "Controlled Burn in progress - Do Not Report" and then a lot of smoke. (Now why didn't our center think of doing that!!! It would only save us 5000 calls a day during the summer...) We then headed down 89 through Glendale, Orderville, and Zion Park. We stopped and ate dinner at Zion Pizza & Noodle in Springdale and watched the tourists take pictures of the sunset on the red rocks. After sunset we headed home for a nap before my graveyard shift. Fun day!
