A few weeks prior to Halloween, the girls made up their minds about what they wanted to be. Ivy, on her own with no prompting, decided on a devil. Jocelyn, after much mind-changing, a black widow. We shopped for Ivy's costume and stuffed some black socks for Jocelyn's costume. They were SO excited to wear their costumes for their classroom party. Ivy's smile, when she saw herself in the mirror with red hair and red makeup was heart-melting. She couldn't stop smiling and turning around to see her red velvet dress. Jocelyn immediately began "climbing her web" and pretending to bite everyone.
Grandma Candy and Grandpa Lloyd came to visit us mid-October and we all went out to Legacy Farm in Hurricane to see the Headless Horseman and the petting zoo. It was a neat place to see but we decided there are more things to do and see at Staheli Farm.
We also took the girls to see THRILLER at Tuacahn for their first time. They were in awe pretty much the whole time.
A few days before Halloween we carved pumpkins in the garage, throwing the guts on a plastic tablecloth. Ivy picked a "nice" face and Jocelyn liked the flaming-eyes face.
All three girls helped Mom hammer stakes into the grass and set up gravestones, put candles around, and build "Betsy," the dead girl who haunted the tire swing. Jocelyn and Ivy were pretty scared of Betsy and it took Mom a long time to convince them to get close enough to her to get this picture.
We also built a "Rotten Candy" clown that sat by the front door and held a tray of old candy covered with plastic cockroaches. The neighbor kids used our garage door while the clown was out front :)
The day before Halloween the girls had a class party. They first got to "parade" around the playground with all of the parents watching from outside of the fence and snapping pictures. Then they had a Halloween party in the classroom, which Mom had helped to set up and brought an activity for one of the "centers." The girls got their faces painted, played bean bag toss, Don't Eat Jack, and then visited Mom's center; a Spider Obstacle Course and Boo Bubbles, bubbles full of dry ice fog that you could hold with gloved hands. It was a fun party and the girls enjoyed seeing their friends costumes and showing their costumes off.
A few nights before Halloween we had our annual "Halloween Movie Night" and they both got to pick a treat at the store; Jocelyn chose powdered donuts and Ivy chose apple cider, which we warmed up and added caramel to. We all watched "ParaNorman" together and ate ourselves silly.
Friday, the day before Halloween, Mom worked but there was a party at her work, so Dad dressed the girls up in their costumes and brought them in for hot dogs and treats.
Saturday (Halloween) morning, the girls got up and had a nice, big, healthy breakfast and then spent the day just playing at home. Once it was time to trick or treat, we all suited up. In addition to the Devil and the Black Widow, Millie was a mini-Zombie, Dad was Jason, and Mom was a Witch.
We went over to Grandma Marj's house and met up with our cousins, then walked the neighborhoods around Grandmas house trick or treating.
